Cape Marlera – On the way to the Lighthouse
The lighthouse of Cape Marlera: Pula – Medulin – Marlera
The easternmost part in the south Marlera, which is situated about 6 km distance from Ližnjan-Lisignano, is the punta Grkova. The cape name is associated with the Greek colonization of Cyprus in the 16th century. During the time period from 1865 and 1880, at a distance of 25 m from the sea, the lighthouse has been built.
Tour description:
Travel by bike along the beach of the southeast coast of Istria, with an amazing view of the sea. The tour starts from Pula and takes you to Medulin where you will enjoy the fantastic views of its sandy beach named Bijeca. Medulin was once a traditional fishing village. Nowadays, it is a genuinely modern and popular seaside resort. A short stopover at Vizule – an archaeological site with well-preserved excavations of the Roman villas. After a break for a cold drink, we continue the tour to the small town of Ližnjan and further to Cape Marlera. Between 1865 and 1880, a lighthouse was built on the cape at a distance of 25 m from the sea, which the locals called Lanterna. We continue the drive along the cape, which offers an incredible view of the vastness of the sea. The untouched nature of Marleras Cape will show you all its colors and smells.
